“... art can change society, perhaps not permanently, but towards a new and subsequent utopia. Art is a space where not only value notions are discussed, but where provisional social models may be implemented to be seen, analyzed and, in the best of cases, copied by other disciplines and bodies in society, which will be the ones to negotiate their permanence and executive status.”

A Magnetic Space – 2008

Inspired by a piece by Canadian choreographer Benoît Lachambre.
The film touches on the sphere of the supernatural. An interplay of multiple forces links the film’s characters to the natural elements—air, water, plant and mineral—leading to strange, instinctual body movements. These characters have an android double, inhabited by another, non-human will. They move about in a magnetic space where corporal language takes the place of the verbal. Film as the art of suggestion, the art of dark, obsessive forces, attesting to the cyclical nature of existence. Thus do waves live...

format: 35 mm Dolby SR transferred onto DVCam
running time: 14’33
actors: Benoît Lachambre, Germana Civera, Hannah Hedman, Saskia Hölbling, Moravia Naranjo, Fabrice Ramalingom, Stephen Thompson.

Pierre Coulibeuf

Born in Elbeuf (F). Lives in Paris. Film-maker and visual artist.
Pierre Coulibeuf uses contemporary creation as material for his cinematic and artistic work.
In a cross-disciplinary relation to film genres (fiction, experimental), as well as to modes of presenting the image in motion (35mm screening, installation, video, photographs), his works invent a place and a language on the borderline of the other arts, critiquing established forms and questioning representations of reality.
